To work as a nurse in the UK, you must register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
You will need to create an NMC online account and upload the following documents:
Fee: £140 (non-refundable)
Paid directly to the NMC at the time of submitting your eligibility application.
Once your documents are approved, the NMC will confirm your eligibility to proceed with the next stage the Competence Tests.
The CBT is a theoretical, computer-based exam that assesses your clinical and numeracy knowledge.
It can be taken in your home country through Pearson VUE test centers.
✅ Once you pass the CBT, you meet the knowledge requirement of the NMC.
After passing the CBT, you become eligible to apply for nursing positions in the UK.
Once you receive a job offer, your UK employer will provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) required for the Health and Care Worker Visa.
Visa Application Process
Once approved, you can travel to the UK to complete the final stage of your registration.
After arriving in the UK, you will undergo training and prepare for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) a practical skills test that evaluates your ability to deliver safe, effective, and professional care.
Passing the OSCE completes the competence requirement of the NMC.
Once you pass the OSCE, the NMC will finalize your registration, and you will receive your NMC PIN number.
This allows you to work as a Registered Nurse (Band 5) in the UK.
